Buffalo Bunch: When Facing the Day is a Challenge

UPDATE: February 2026

Buffalo The Buffalo Bunch
When Facing the Day is a Challenge

When Machaelle started the Buffalo Bunch, we thought there were a lot of crises popping up on a regular basis. We had no idea then how many storms — both literal and figurative — would be hitting us in the face on a daily basis. And this is when it's most helpful to think of the wisdom of the buffalo and the message they have for us.

For us and for many folks we are talking with, waking up and facing another day can sometimes feel rather daunting. If you’ve been a Perelandra customer a while, you know we believe it’s important to stay informed, engaged and participating in our communities (locally, nationally and worldwide). But staying informed can also break your heart, stir up anger, distress, fear or frustration or even trigger a past trauma experience.

We hear news daily that can stir any number of those emotions, or a mixed bag of them all at once. It can be exhausting, and it may make you want to pull the covers over your head and hide from the world, just for a day. We get it. This challenge doesn't have to take you under.

These recommendations are for Buffalo Bunch folks who will walk into the storm, and not run from it.

When you feel you can't bear to face the day:

Call on your MAP team for a "Stress Session."
(MAP: Medical Assistance Program)

If you’re having trouble exiting the bed, think of the convenience! You’re right where you need to be for a MAP session.

You may think you can’t spare the time, but how much time have you already spent trying to will yourself forward? In our experience, it saves you far more time and energy than it takes, and can turn your day around before it begins.

Set your alarm for 30 minutes. Open your MAP coning, tell your team you wish to have a MAP Stress Session, then start talking through what you are feeling, thinking, experiencing and how it’s impacting your ability to function well. Unload. Unburden. Let it all out.

When the alarm goes off, close the coning. Take a dose of ETS for Humans. Get out of bed. As you move into your day, take another dose of ETS at any time you feel so inclined.

As a rule, when you are struggling through the days:

Take ETS for Humans 3-5 times daily.

⦿ When you wake up

⦿ 2-3 times throughout the day

⦿ At bedtime

Your children are going to pick up on your distress and they sometimes catch more from the news playing in the background than the adults do! Give them ETS for Humans 2-5 times daily.

Your companion animals are going to pick up on your distress, too.
Give them ETS for Animals 1-2 times daily.

We're here to assist you make use of all that Perelandra offers. Call our Question Hot Line for answers, tips and encouragement.

And on that note: We would like to remind you that the Walk for Peace is a daily practice. As the buffalo walk together into the storm, so too can we walk for peace together, and in partnership with nature.
