About Your Integumentary System

Weather extremes including bitter cold and windy weather to searing heat and extended sun exposure can really do a number on your skin. But do you know which body system to support in light of that?

The name of this MBP Balancing Solution can be a stumbling block for many. It might just be the most difficult to pronounce of all the body systems! Here's how we say it:

Int • Egg • You • Meant • Airy

Crash Course IntegumentaryIf you enjoy laughing and learning at the same time, and would like to better understand your integumentarty system, go watch this video:

Crash Course
on the Integumentary System
— Skin Deep

Viewing Tip: It is a jam-packed and clever video with great information. It's also fast paced. You can slow it down to hear everything.
Click on the "Settings" wheel at the bottom right of the video box, then the arrow to the right of "Playback speed" and select .75 for a more relaxed, but still darn funny learning experience.

Your integumentary system includes key functions that coordinate with all of the other body systems. It covers the entire body. And although we often refer to the short description (skin, hair and nails), this system includes other important components; connective tissue, various glands, hair follicles, nerves and blood vessels. It has myriad functions critical to our health.

The skin protects our body, cushions our organs and acts as the body's first line of defense against infection and abrupt temperature changes. The extreme temperatures we are experiencing as our climate changes, smoke from wildfires and smog . . . All of this makes it even more imperative that our Integumentary System has what it needs to do its job. Here are just some of the critical functions of our skin:

⦿ Protects the body's internal living tissues and organs

⦿ Protects against invasion by infectious organisms

⦿ Protects the body from dehydration

⦿ Helps excrete waste materials through perspiration

⦿ Acts as a receptor for touch, pressure, pain, heat and cold

⦿ Protects the body against sunburns by secreting melanin

⦿ Generates vitamin D through exposure to ultraviolet light

⦿ Stores water, fat, glucose and vitamin D

⦿ Provides formation of new cells to repair minor injuries

That's quite a workload.

burstIf you skipped over this MBP Solution because you weren't sure what it was or how it might address your needs, this information may help you reconsider.
